What models are in the MINI lineup?
MINI was an old brand that had a long life with models being produced from 1959 all the way up until 2000. It wasn’t until 2001 that the brand saw a major update toward what we all know as the MINI today. Most people don’t know what models are in the MINI lineup though, and we are here to fill you in on all the details.
Models within the MINI brand
Not counting special editions or the plug-in hybrid that has limited availability, there are a total of five MINI models. That’s a pretty high number considering most people think that the whole brand consists of one model, and that’s the Hardtop.
The MINI Hardtop starts off the lineup, but it itself has two models. You can get the Hardtop in either a 2-door or a 4-door configuration. Of course, since there is a hardtop, you would be correct in assuming that there is also a convertible. It’s simply called the MINI Convertible and it is only available with two doors. That’s only three models, what about the other two?
Does MINI make a crossover?
The definition of a crossover can be muddy at best. Even the regular MINI hardtop can compete with many smaller crossovers from other brands, but due to its short height, people would tend to consider it a sedan. However, there are two MINI models that sit slightly outside that definition. They are the Clubman and the Countryman, and you can safely consider them crossovers. We will go over each below.
The Clubman is still low to the ground, but its longer length and wheelbase makes it more akin to a crossover or even a wagon than a sedan.
The Countryman is a real crossover with available all-wheel drive, more ground clearance, and a longer wheelbase than even the Clubman.
Are there performance MINI models?
MINI is now run by BMW, so of course they have a performance lineup. It’s called the John Cooper Works, or JCW. JCW was a separate company founded by the son of the original maker of the Mini Cooper of which the current MINI derives much of its styling. JCW was acquired by BMW and now you can get JCW versions of the Hardtop, Convertible, Clubman, and Countryman.
